The Philadelphia Fire Department hires only state-certified paramedics. See additional employment requirements. Overtime is paid at the level of time and a half. There are opportunities for promotion, which include a raise in salaries. Paramedics are paid biweekly. Salary does not include your annual uniform allowance or holiday time. The Civil Service Commission has waived the usual requirement that candidates must be residents of Philadelphia for a year prior to appointment.

Establishment of residency in Philadelphia will be required no later than one year after appointment. Ability to physically perform the duties and work in the environmental conditions required of the position.

COVID vaccine. The Lancaster Consortium for Emergency Medicine Education does not currently offer advanced placement to students who are seeking to graduate or become eligible to sit for the National Registry or state examination at the paramedic level. All students seeking to graduate or become eligible for the National Registry or state examination must complete all of the requirements of the Lancaster Consortium for Emergency Medicine Education.

Applicants should also be prepared to meet the physical and core performance standards detailed in the College Catalog. There is a maximum of 6 students per lab. There is no lab in semester III. See more accreditation information.
